SAFETYKIDS provides information about the use of cookies on its website: www.safetykids.es

What are cookies?

Cookies are files that can be downloaded to your device through web pages. They are tools that play an essential role in providing many information society services. Among other things, they allow a website to store and retrieve information about the browsing habits of a user or their device and, depending on the information obtained, they can be used to recognise the user and improve the service offered.

Types of cookies

Depending on the entity that manages the domain from which the cookies are sent and how the data obtained is processed, there are two types:

  • First-party cookies: those sent to the user's device from a computer or domain managed by the publisher itself, from which the service requested by the user is provided.
  • Third-party cookies: those sent to the user's device from a computer or domain that is not managed by the publisher but by another entity that processes the data obtained through the cookies.

If cookies are installed from a computer or domain managed by the publisher itself but the information collected through them is managed by a third party, they cannot be considered first-party cookies.

There is also a second classification based on how long they remain stored in the user's browser:

  • Session cookies: designed to collect and store data while the user is accessing a website. They are usually used to store information that is only needed to provide the service requested by the user on a single occasion (e.g. a list of products purchased).
  • Persistent cookies: the data remains stored on the device and can be accessed and processed for a period defined by the party responsible for the cookie, which can range from a few minutes to several years.

Finally, there is another classification with five types of cookies according to the purpose for which the data obtained is processed:

  • Technical cookies: those that allow the user to browse a website, platform or application and use the different options or services it offers, such as controlling traffic and data communication, identifying the session, accessing restricted areas, remembering the items in an order, completing the purchase process for an order, applying to register for or take part in an event, using security features while browsing, storing content for broadcasting video or sound, or sharing content via social media.
  • Personalisation cookies: these allow the user to access the service with certain predefined general features based on a set of criteria on the user's device, such as language, the type of browser used to access the service, or the regional settings from which the service is accessed.
  • Analytics cookies: these allow the party responsible for them to monitor and analyse the behaviour of users of the websites to which they are linked. The information collected through this type of cookie is used to measure the activity of websites, applications or platforms and to build browsing profiles of their users, in order to make improvements based on the analysis of how users use the service.
  • Advertising cookies: these allow advertising space to be managed as effectively as possible.
  • Behavioural advertising cookies: these store information about users' behaviour obtained by continuously observing their browsing habits, which makes it possible to build a specific profile to show advertising based on it.
  • External social media cookies: these allow visitors to interact with content from different social platforms (Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.) and are generated only for users of those social networks. The conditions of use of these cookies and the information collected are governed by the privacy policy of the relevant social platform.
